DAN Opleiding
Vir die ouens wat onlangs die klub se Suurstof Operateurs kursus voltooi het, loer gerus na die volgende DAN kursus. Kontak besonderhede aan die onderkant van die pos.
Hi Everyone
On Thursday evening 30 March I will be presenting a Combo package of DAN REMO2 and NEURO for existing and current DAN O2 Providers (pre-requisite). See the attachments for more detailed info. The REMO2 (Rebreather O2 Unit) and NEURO (On-Site Neurological Assessment) courses cost R350.00 each but the special if done back-to-back in one evening is R600.00. These two courses will be presented at Let's Dive in Elardus Park (Serpentine Rd) and starts at 18h30.
The combo was scheduled a while ago for a few divers that previously started with the DEMP Plus Program and are now doing the last two courses in this six-module program (AED / O2 Prov / Adv O2 Prov / Haz Mar Life Inj + REMO2 / NEURO). Sorry for the short notice but I'd be remised if I didn't open this opportunity to other eligible candidates as well.
Please advise me if you're interested so that I can make the necessary arrangements. Look forward to sharing these interesting and valuable programs with you.
Kind regards
Sean French

OXYGEN SOLUTION FOR REMOTE LOCATIONS
For dive operations situated in locations far from definitive medical care, the challenge of providing continuous oxygen first aid for a prolonged period is a big one. Providing optimal quantities of oxygen for prolonged periods used to require several smaller or a few large cylinders – until now. After the initial launch in January 1999, the whole program was suspended in August 2001 due to manufacturing issues. Fortunately (for remote diving locations and those diving there), the program was re-launched again recently after all the technical hitches were sorted out.
The purpose of the DAN REMO2 Course is to train existing O2 Providers the necessary skills required to effectively use the REMO2 Unit. This unit is a single use “re-breather” system for use with conscious breathing injured divers that recycles expired air by retaining expired oxygen in the breathing circuit and removing carbon dioxide (CO2). The CO2 canister has a duration of about 8 hours. When using a standard DAN Jumbo-D cylinder at the prescribed flow-rates, it can provide 100% oxygen for an injured diver with suspected DCI for up to 8 hours. The REMO2 Unit’s cost of about R850.00 is, however, a once-off expense as the Unit will be replaced free of charge by DAN provided that it was used for a bona fide injured diver supported by all the necessary documentation as required by DAN i.e. DAN Emergency Equipment Replacement Form together with incident reports, hospital/EMS release forms, police reports etc.
As oxygen in remote diving locations is scarce, costly and difficult for many dive operators to re-fill together with the impracticality of storing large quantities of high-pressure oxygen cylinders, this system is revolutionary. It stretches the available oxygen in a reasonably sized cylinder to great lengths; previously only possible with multiple cylinders. To close off on an economical note, because the Unit is replaced at no cost, the subsequent use of the REMO2 will make the administration of 100% oxygen cheaper per hour.
Active status DAN Instructors are encouraged to teach this exciting new program and can do so after an equipment orientation. For more information on this great new system, the training program and updates for DAN Instructors, contact DAN SA on 0860 242 242 or +27 (0) 11 254 1991/2.
Cost:
· Provider = R350.00
· Instructor Orientation/Conversion = R440.00
DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment Course
Approximately two-thirds of divers with decompression illness have evidence of damage to the nervous system. These signs are often vague and can go unrecognized by the diver. This can cause them to be dismissed as insignificant or not dive-related.
This program focuses on how to obtain essential information about a diver involved in a dive emergency and what information to relay to emergency medical services.
Only medical professionals should diagnose medical conditions. The information you gather while performing a neurological assessment will be useful to help the dive physician understand the extent of the injury and how it has changed in the time it took to get the diver from the dive site to definitive care.
Course Objective
The DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers Provider ("DAN Neuro Provider") program is designed to:
· Refresh the knowledge of the warning signs of a dive emergency
· Identify when it is appropriate to conduct an On-Site Neurological Assessment
· Conduct an On-Site Neurological Assessment
Recommended Minimum Hours of Training Knowledge development (lecture) hours = 1 Skills development (practical) hours = 3. This module should be taught as a four-hour program. The time needed to teach the course varies and depends on many factors, including the number of students and their ability to process the educational components of the program.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this program DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers participants will be able to:
· Understand and identify common warning signs of decompression illness.
· Take a dive history to determine when it is appropriate to conduct a complete On-Site Neurological Assessment.
· Use an On-Site Neurological Assessment Slate to conduct a complete On-Site Neurological Assessment.
Skill Performance ObjectivesTo successfully complete the DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence in conducting an On-Site Neurological Assessment.
Skills Development
Taking a History, Taking vital signs, Mental Function, Consciousness, Speech and Language, Orientation to Time and Place, Judgment, Short-term Memory, Abstract Reasoning, Calculations, Cranial Nerves, Eye Control , Facial Control, Facial Sensation, Hearing, Motor Function, Shoulders , Biceps , Triceps, Finger spread, Grip strength, Hip flexors, Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Feet, Sensory Function, Light Touch, Sharp Touch, Balance and Coordination, Walking , Finger-Nose-Finger,
Cost:
Provider = R 350.00
DAN O2 Instructor Upgrade Cost = R 592.00 (Incl Instructor Module & DVD)
